The Main Spots

Behind the stories are three spotted personalities with plenty of heart, humor, and opinions of their own. Bowman, Storm, and Pearl each bring something different to the page, from goofy antics and gentle moments to mischief, loyalty, and love. Their real quirks, favorite things, relationships, and actual photos help shape the characters and illustrations readers meet in the books. Along the way, other relatives, animal friends, and beloved companions may make special guest appearances, adding their own pawprints to the journey.

Bodacious Bowman

Bodacious Bowman is the main character of the stories, and yes, that is his real registered name. He believes he is part mountain goat and often sits on the back of the couch, keeping watch from above. Bowman is also a serious sock collector. He loves carrying socks in his mouth, even when everyone else would rather he give them back, and his sock-collecting habit has inspired stories of its own. The blue ball that once belonged to Pearl is now one of his favorite toys to chase, carry, and proudly show off. Bowman’s happy moments are easy to spot. He spins in circles, gives big hugs, and shares plenty of kisses with a giant smile. Gentle and sweet, he still takes his job as defender of the yard very seriously whenever squirrels, birds, or other suspicious visitors appear. Bowman is deaf in one ear, too, which is part of who he is and a story for another day.

Storm

Storm is Bowman’s half sister and the lively little whirlwind of the group. She loves burrowing under the covers, hunting for tiny bugs, investigating anything that catches her eye, and racing after her red flier. When she wants Bowman to play, she makes her case with a paw, a bounce, or a determined swat in his direction. Storm also likes to “pet” and hug her humans with her paws, although in her excitement, she sometimes forgets about her claws. Curious, playful, and ready for the next adventure, Storm brings energy, comedy, and a bit of chaos to Bowman’s world.

Pearl

In Loving Memory

Pearl was Bowman’s actual aunt and a steady, loving presence in his world. She loved warm patches of sunlight, bumblebees, rope toys, and vegetables straight from the garden. The blue ball that appears in Bowman’s story was one of her favorites, too. Pearl was often close by the author’s side during therapy sessions, where her calm presence and gentle nature became meaningful to many clients. She loved Bowman deeply and helped teach him about patience, play, and sharing, even when his goofy antics occasionally tested her nerves. Pearl’s sweetness, silliness, and steady love remain part of Bowman’s world, and her paw prints live on in the stories she helped inspire.
